Coles Digital Online Content

Coles has announced partnership with Salsify to provide data collection and management to Coles Digital using Salsify’s free SupplierXM (SXM) platform. At Coles’ request, Salsify will be migrating suppliers’ data from their SKUlibrary and SKUcapture platforms over to SXM. The transition will take place over 3 months.

As Coles Digital continue to evolve and strengthen their product data, they have decided to make some additional attributes mandatory for their suppliers. This change is driven by their desire to uplift customer shopping experience online. For existing lines no additional action is required, this new standard is only for new or updated products.

Why?

SupplierXM helps suppliers provide accurate, compliant product content to Coles, including validation of the new requested fields for Coles’ online platforms.

Salsify and Coles.

The data will be used for the Coles’ online platforms to enable filtering and search functionality, and customer-facing product information.

It’s important that the data provided is not only accurate and up-to-date, but relevant to each specific product as well.

For example, if product is loose leaf tea, allergens such as ‘crustacea free’ should not be included in the attributes.

Whilst there are some steps you need to action in preparation for this transition, you will remain to maintain your product data in your current platform (SKUlibrary or Coles SKUcapture platforms) until advised by Salsify team. See our easy to use supplier checklist on this page.

Based on your situation, there are a few different steps you may need to take, visit our decision matrix here to find out what path you need to follow. See our easy to use supplier checklist on this page.

Recent research by Coles has uncovered that online, people still rely on their senses to decide what’s appealing enough to buy. So, compelling imagery and content that answers the customer’s questions about a product are a must-have for a good customer experience.

Through recent research, Coles identified some key product elements that really matter to your customers. To help optimise your products and improve the customer experience online.

Technology has come a long way. More and more people are researching and buying their groceries online and, since
they can’t actually touch, smell, or squeeze an item – visuals matter more than ever.

People still rely on their senses to decide what’s appealing enough to buy, so compelling imagery that replicates a product’s appeal is a must-have for a good customer experience.

At Coles, we’re on a mission to deliver strong, informative and eye-catching product imagery and content that customers can engage with whether they’re shopping online or doing their research before they head into a store. We aim to represent products as faithfully as we can online – with clear images, context and inspiration.

By helping the customer, you’ll also:

  • Increase conversion
  • Increase engagement
  • Drive brand awareness
  • Build brand trust and loyalty

Plainly put, when it comes to product images – what’s good for the customer, is good for you.

The change in mandatory attributes will roll out for SKUlibrary customers early 2025.
